FAQs

What ages do you teach? Am I too old to start music lessons?

I teach students ages 18 and up.

It’s a common misconception that music lessons are exclusively for young children. If you’re feeling tentative or shy about starting lessons as an adult, realize that choosing to grow and expand yourself in a new direction is one of the most mature, responsible, and “adult” decisions you can make.

My specialty is making music lessons accessible to everyone in their busy lives. I don’t demand hours and hours of practice, recitals, competitions, or exams because I want you to make music for your own reasons. If it’s fun, rewarding, and challenging in a positive way, you will spend as much time as you can practicing without me setting arbitrary goals.

You really have no idea just how much music lessons will enhance your life and well-being. Don’t assume that it is just a leisure activity or underestimate its importance. Although piano lessons can be relaxing, fun, and challenging in a good way, the benefits you will reap go well beyond learning that song you always wanted to play.

I’ve taken lessons before. Will I learn anything new?

Perhaps you’ve taken some piano lessons in the past, but stopped because the experience was not a good one. Maybe you are still playing, but just feel like you are not getting anywhere with your current teacher or method.

Now is your chance to take advantage of a new, revolutionary approach to playing the piano which will have you playing amazing, mature-sounding songs with both hands immediately, from your very first lessons.

Piano Lessons for Experienced Students

What kind of music will I be learning?

Your Simply Music lessons will include:

  • Music in a variety of styles — classical, contemporary, blues.
  • Accompaniment — playing chords and rhythm while someone else provides the melody by singing or playing another instrument.
  • Improvisation and Composition — in a supportive environment, students will learn to create their own music at the piano.
  • Curriculum Structure — In the beginning, all students follow the same curriculum. As you get further into the lessons, you will be able to start selecting your own songs to learn, in addition to the music from the program.
How do online lessons work?

Have you wondered how online lessons work?

My answer is — really well!

But you really want to know about the logistics, right? I use two cameras — one for my face, and a second one over the keyboard showing my hands. My students can see and hear me very well.

There are many advantages to online lessons, but one of my favorites is that everyone has their own keyboard. Demonstrations and back and forth playing are so easy. I can play a passage for a student and they can play it back for me without having to switch places on the piano bench.

Here are some specifics about getting set up for online lessons.

Equipment, Setup and Technical Information

Do I need to buy a piano or is a keyboard okay?

You will need an instrument to practice on, but a keyboard is just fine. I often get asked about what types of keyboards I recommend for beginners. The information in this link will help guide you in purchasing your first instrument.

What is your musical background?

My name is Cara Morgan and I have a Bachelor of Educational Studies in Music from the University of Missouri. I am also a licensed Simply Music Piano Teacher.

I’ve been playing piano since I was very young, and I really do consider piano to be the love of my life! I have also played flute, recorder, Celtic harp and percussion. Some of my favorite moments have involved playing these instruments for musical theatre productions.

I love exploring music with my students. My goal as a piano teacher is to help my students experience the same sense of joy and fun I’ve experienced through a lifetime of playing the piano.
